Political Ideologies – A Practical And Pragmatic Stance Is What You Should Look For

Politics is the art of the possible. No political party can afford to have two idealistic stance on any issue. This may seem like a crass and opportunistic set up but that is how democracy works. The imprisonment and handling of prisoners of war of terror in Guantanamo Bay lead to a huge controversy. The use of torture as a method to extract information from convicts was criticized a lot.

However, the best solution that opposing political parties were in a position to offer was to export inmates of the prison to foreign countries where they could be tortured without worrying about the political consequences.

The recent capture of Bin Laden based on the information obtained from inmates of Guantanamo Bay has further muddled the issue. The political party that setup the prison cannot afford to derive political mileage from this bit of information. Doing so would seem tantamount to condoning torture and violation of human rights.

Political parties walk a very fine balance and often err on one side or the other on specific issues. Conservatives tend to be too conservative and unrealistic about abortion and other such issues. On the other hand, democrats tend to be too interested in exporting democracy to all parts of the world irrespective of whether conditions are ripe or not.

A smart leader would be one who reconciles these issues as far as possible by taking everybody along. One must assess political parties through the same pragmatic and practical medium. Adopting too ideological stance may work well for an individual living in a house. However, this may not work well when one has to manage a country.

Moving Beyond The Obvious – Best Way To Compare Election Candidates

Political scientists often complain that the most glamorous and controversial aspects often get the maximum publicity in a democracy. A racial slur made by one candidate against the other becomes top news. Analysts of different political affiliations speak and debate the issue for very long time.

On the other hand, nobody bothers about the basic steps that are taken to make any and every campaign a success. The agenda, portfolio or manifesto is treated as a formality. People complain that these documents contain nothing more than a long list of nice sounding words and promises which may or may not see the light of day.

However, it does not make sense to judge any candidate on the basis of a single controversy. Rather, one should focus on a holistic and comprehensive approach. Analyzing the manifesto makes sense because it gives the voter an idea of the goals and ideals of the candidate.

A candidate professing affiliation to a specific political party but coming out with an agenda that is contrary to the ideals of the party may turn out to be a bad bet. The individual, if elected, may end up without any support from his or her party. On the other hand, an individual who plays it too safe and is not prepared to go beyond what the party says or dictates would not be a good leader either.

It is important to go beyond the mere words used in campaign promises. Even the choice of words matters. The individual must have a clear view about social, economic, political and international issues. Only then can such a candidate be trusted to run the country.

Fewer Political Parties – A Sign Of Maturity Often Seen In Aged Democracies

Different countries in the world have a different political setup insofar as the number of parties in the democracy is concerned. Mature democracies like United States and United Kingdom follow a two party set up. Of course, there is nothing official or formal about the limit.

It just so happens that the national political spectrum has been divided into two parties. One can never achieve real democracy if one places restrictions on the total number of political parties. Freedom of political association is a fundamental tenet of democracy.

Many experts view the twin party set up as a sign of a mature democracy. There is very little scope for political horse trading because voters will be choosing between one of the two options. On the other hand, having too many political parties, as is seen in certain European and Asian countries, can lead to a fractured mandate where the votes get distributed amongst different parties with almost similar ideologies. In such a scenario, the process of formation of government by reaching agreements with different political parties can become a very complicated process.

It has been seen that most matured and old democracies have a two or three party setup. On the other hand, countries that attend independence five or six decades ago have a large number of parties.

While having fewer parties may make the national view clearer, this does not mean that each and every member of the party subscribes to its ideology completely. There are different groups and pressure lobbies within a single party and such groups often function as independent units when it comes to seeking power and influence amongst voters.

The Winning Formula In Political Campaign

The domain of politics is seldom an easy task and encompasses varied levels of commitment and leverage. The political model and its successful implementation has bewildered human kind in all respects and added newer functions to be explored. Every country has its own political pace and asks for strategies which can convert a political campaign into a successful one. It should be noted that there is no single political campaign which can be administered for tapping of people confidence, thus converting them to loyal votes. Strategies should focus on different factors rather than single handedly directing towards voter influencing. Recent trends have shown the success rate of political consultants sky rocketing in an era of complex political models.

There is never a single solution to political complexity, as stated by some established political consultant. But it is noteworthy to mention that with years of experience added with clustered advice from different corners, a significant number of candidates’ loose out in elections. Its here a proper evaluation is needed to understand the basics of political strategy implementation. Prospective winners have been successful predictors. They usually have keen sense of analyzing the proportion of loyal voters; therefore they concentrate their work routine on them. Most of their investment and time is for that loyal section which they presume to be voting with respect to past voting patterns.

The success story is more expandable where candidates target their population with sector specific message patterns. A winning formula often gives equal concentration to topics discussed as to sections which are not being considered. It should be noted that in elections no specific area is of utmost importance, thereby equal judgment is required to catapult a successful campaigning. In an era of technology, winning can be eased with teleconferencing to reach the masses surpassing expensive television parameters. Instant messaging is useful.

In such circumstances proper labor management principles become foremost in giving corporate mobility a new dimension. It’s noteworthy to mention that corporate functioning involves politics within workforce in various levels. Such politics often appears due to mixed functioning of hierarchy levels as well as individual sensation of prosperity. Such politics need to be studied in detail to keep hierarchy functioning at optimum levels.

Corporate politics is often practiced to retain individual hierarchy levels as well as garner individual reward system. For an example it can be well quoted that a person holding a specific hierarchy level may sometimes be challenged by an upper level where he or she often gets forced to employ political dimensions to uphold his or her responsibilities and actions. Thereafter such a political employment needs to be properly balanced so as to keep the corporate environment sustainable. Can Politics And Student Co-Exist?

Politics since the century gone has seen various changes in actions and theory. But few things have not changed the pillars of politics. Student involvement, student voices and student implications in political strategies have not seen a huge change in functions. Various theories contradict each other in student participation but few have succeeded in establishing a strong alliance to student participation in political campaigns. There are both long as well as short term effectual platforms when a student involves himself in politics. There should be a line drawn between active involvement of students in politics and the study of political courses.

The latter is usually a theoretical aspect orienting administrative structures, creation of political parties and formation of government bodies in different countries. But the involvement is an action based platform where one organizes meetings, raises their voices and manipulates individual thought process to lead a successful political campaign story. This generally increases the communication patterns of students thereby strengthening their democratic sense at optimum levels. But it shouldn’t be forgotten that a student is expected to learn his subjects and should concentrate his efforts in pursuing detailed study of the theoretical aspects. In pursuing action based politics, majority of students forget the basics of student hood and involve in political violence.

Such political violence is rampant nowadays not only in developing countries but also developed countries leading to total collapse of education systems. It should be strictly functional in establishing a strong order for students to pursue educational goals so as to establish their future and secure a success story for the nation. In such cases involvement of students in action based politics should be properly monitored.

How to Get Invovled in Political Campaigns Both Local and State

One of the best ways to get involved with politics is to get involved with a political campaign. Political campaigns can revolve around a particular issue or a specific candidate. Whatever the issue a political campaign is a great way for people to have a hands on experience with politics and feel as if they are involved.

If you are looking for a way to get involved with a political campaign, here are some steps you can take to get involved.

Join a Political Party. If you notice that your political beliefs are very similar to that of a political party you should join a political party. Most people who join will be invited to political campaigns and campaigning events. It’s a great way to get involved with local and national politics.

Write to State Representatives. If you wish to be involved with a political campaign on the state level you can write to your state representative’s office and ask how to get involved. Many state representatives will have the information to guide you to a political campaign group that will accept volunteers.

Contact Local Representatives. If you are looking for local political campaigns you can contact your local representatives. Many representatives set up separate email accounts or hot lines that allow people who are looking to volunteer to call up and inquire about it. If you do not have any of the local information you can always ask around as many people might be involved or able to help you out.

Join a Voters Group. If you do not want to join a political party you can join a local voters group. These are groups of individuals who work at the common goal of voting in elections. By joining this type of group you will have access to local political campaigns that are looking for volunteers.

Getting Involved in Local Politics

Everyone loves watching the national elections unfold, but local politics are equally important in the lives of American citizens. Local politicians determine the state of the roads people drive on, the quality of schools, how state taxes are allocated, and a host of other important political decisions. Getting involved in local politics gives citizens a chance to change their cities for the better.

The first step in becoming involved in local politics is getting informed. Following political advertisements on television only leads to confusion, so citizens should use their own resources to read up on candidates and issues. With this information in hand, they can make informed votes and elect someone they truly support.

Another way to get involved is to help candidates campaign. When people find a cause they heavily support, they may want to get involved with it. This involves educating people, disproving rumors, and giving out the information people need to make political decisions. At election time, candidates are always looking for volunteers to make calls asking for votes or donations, put up signs, and send out mailings. Participating in a campaign like this can be very rewarding for someone who really believes in the politician they support.

Attending local meetings is essential for the citizen who wants to stay politically informed. Many cities, counties, and states have meetings where constituents can get together, ask questions, and learn about how local politicians are spending tax money. Although these meetings are typically open and free to the public, very few people typically attend. They may fear that they wont understand whats going on or that their concerns will go unnoticed. However, politicians are eager to listen to the people they serve.

Playing a role in local politics empowers citizens and helps them make the best choice for themselves, their families, and their communities.

Educating Yourself at Election Time

Whenever election time comes around, politicians suddenly seem to want all of your attention. Commercials on television, mail, and phone calls bombard you with candidates promises, beliefs, and accomplishments. How do you know what to believe or whom to trust?

The first step to getting educated at election time is to avoid the television! The ads you see are skewed, and you would have to work very hard to pull any truth out of them. Even if you watch the ads with a skeptical eye, theyll still affect your decision when it comes time to make your decision.

As an alternative, do your own research. Dont get your information on candidates from their opponents websites. Look up how each candidate worked in his or her former role, as well as decisions they had a key part in. There should be an overarching trend in their votes and what they support or oppose. For instance, if a candidate claims to be for socialized health care but has voted against it three times in the last four years, be wary. Think about whether they really have had a change of heart or if they are trying to cater to popular opinion.

Even if you are certain that you support one candidate over another, its good to educate yourself on all the available candidates. It helps you see opposing viewpoints on critical issues, leading you to a greater understanding of the side you support. Furthermore, it protects you against the deception of political ads. Instead of hearing only the skewed viewpoints of commercials, youll understand the facts of every debate. Political websites that dont support any party are good sources of information, since they dont have a vested interest in the voting outcomes.

Becoming educated on candidates and debates is important when it comes to election time. Put the work in and learn about the issues that affect you.
